Knowledge Management for Customer Service and Support features in the 2016 edition of Gartner’s annual CRM Vendor Guide. Gartner puts forward a simple definition of KM as comprising of a knowledgebase, search technology and a UI.

The Vendor Guide goes on to highlight the use of KM for both employee and customer facing applications and elaborates on support for six core categories of knowledge:

  1. Agent.
  2. Corporate.
  3. Social.
  4. Partner.
  5. Search.
  6. Hosted Community.
