Transversal CEO mentors new entrepreneurs
Heather Richards, CEO of Transversal, shared her experience at a “speed mentoring” event designed to connect up-and-coming entrepreneurs with established businesswomen.
The Female Founders Forum, held in Cambridge on 25 October, is one of several such events around the UK. It is organized by The Entrepreneurs Network in conjunction with Barclays. The event matches business leaders with those just starting out, and provides a space to ask advice about the day-to-day issues of launching and sustaining a business. Longer term, the Female Founders Forum aims to address problems that face female-led start-ups, such as unequal access to funding.
As well as Heather, mentors at the event included Trina Watt, founder of Cambridge-based Watt Knowledge, Oriane Chausiaux, founder of Heartfelt Technologies, and Charlene Laidley, campaigner for women in business.
Heather commented: “It was a really insightful day that allowed me to speak as a mentor to a diverse group of Founders from the region. I specifically focused on the topic area ‘selling and pitching’, though the format of the event allowed for free-ranging conversations to take place that also facilitated a lot of networking. The fact that the attendees represented business that crossed a range of sectors (AI, HR, biotechnology, retail) etc. was refreshing.”
